Jamie Foxx to mentor next week's 'Idol'

Jamie Foxx will be returning to American Idol next week to serve as mentor as the Top 4 sing "Songs from the Cinema." Jamie was on hand last year to mentor the Top 5 during "Rat Pack Week" and did a respectable job. Why do I get the feeling Idol is auditioning Jamie for Simon's seat?

Idol has released the song list from which the remaining four contestants - Crystal Bowersox, Michael Lynche, Casey James, and Lee DeWyze - will make their selections.

So, what songs should they pick? Let's stay away from the cliches, okay! That means no "Somewhere Over the Rainbow." That's been done to death on Idol and it's time to retire it.

I would love to hear Crystal sing "Summertime." I think she could have a "moment" with it. The only problem is that this was Fantasia's "moment" Season 3. But, it's been long enough, and I suspect a lot of people watching now won't even remember that.

I think Michael could do a good job with "Endless Love" or "Moon River." For Lee, "Mrs. Robinson!" No question, it's his kind of song. Casey should sing "Can't Fight the Moonlight." That's pretty much it!

Remember, last year, Idol introduced the duets during Top 4 week, teaming up Allison and Adam and Kris and Danny to sing together. Although Allison and Adam did great, Danny and Kris didn't quite gel and the whole thing was an awkward mess. I'm hoping they don't do that again! Think of it! The possibilities are mind-boggling!  This group is so diverse, pairing them up would be hilarious!
